H2.0 Homepage Layout

Fred asks…

I noticed that it is possible to have more than 2 posts on yer page at any time by editing the index.php to ‘showposts=4′, but when I do this the top 2 posts are fine but the 3rd and 4th posts line up under each other as opposded to beside each other (like the top two). Is it possible to fix this?

Yes, it is absolutely possible. CSS lets you do (almost) anything. Originally I had played around with the idea of having more than two posts on the homepage, but decided against it for several reasons:

  • If you have posts organized in a 2×2 grid, how do you know which is the second one? Is it on the top-right or the bottom-left?
  • Having too much content up there makes the BottomBar less visible on smaller screens.
  • IMHO, part of the Hemingway philosophy is to focus on the absolute latest.

I think an interesting alternative layout could be with 3 posts, the latest one on top taking all the width, and then two next to each other, with less height. I may try this when/if I have time to work on Hemingweb 2.0. In the meantime, I’d be happy to see what you can come with!
