A Golden Star

What a day… First day at Yahoo! as a full-time employee. I have been working there for several month as a contractor, but today I went through the new Yahoo! hire orientation program. So I am now a real purple-bleeding Yahoo!. Among other goodies, they give out this golden cardboard star with your name on it. Nice. But then you get this book titled sink or swim. I’m not sure what to think about that… guess I’ll have to read it to find out. Anyways, that’s the news: my paycheck just got smaller, but prestige went up a couple points. Although it’s apparently a great time to join because the sneaky competition and pending corporate re-org yield an interestingly low strike-out rate for stock options.

Whatever, tomorrow I go back to doing stuff that will be used by millions of people. That’s enough motivation for me.

I did not post anything about the Yahoo! Year End Party from saturday night because it was mostly a non-event for me. OK it was huge, and I lost $500 in fake money playing casino poker.
