Gomo Review: Cute Hand-drawn Quest for Machinarium Fans

Gomo is a point-and-click quest adventure game by a small Slovak game studio Fishcow. You play as a red toy-like creature named Gomo whose dog was stolen by an alien. You have to help him find it and buy it back with an alien crystal. You can download Gomo for Windows and Mac OS exclusively in Steam game store.

Gomo game visual design elements and animation were inspired by the famous Polish studio Amanita design that developed Machinarium, Samorost, and other creative titles. All backgrounds and interactive features in this game are also entirely hand-drawn. Similarly to all Amanita’s characters, he cannot talk, so all thoughts and replicas appear as dialogue bubbles.

Gameplay: 4.5

Gomo gameplay consists of level exploration and various quests. The difficulty level is very low so even small children can solve them. The vast majority of tasks are based on manipulating electronic devices. For example, there is a scene where alien walking tanks attack the city. You have to set up a nuclear rocket and save the city. Other types of quests require you to match tiles to make up pictures, move objects to create suitable conditions for processes, and so on. Every location requires you to come up with several solutions. All actions should be done in the right order to unlock the next location.

The plot tells the story of a weird fabric guy named Gomo. Aliens steal his dog Dingo, so he decides to liberate the pet. Aliens say that they need a treasured crystal that is hidden in deep mines, so you have to get to the core of Earth and get it. After that, you must get back on the surface and find a way to reach space, where the dog is held.

Gomo latest version is a simple point-and-click adventure. You have to move the cursor with a mouse or a touchpad and click objects to use them or hide inside the character. Replacement of things is done by holding and dragging them.

Replay Value: 4

The full Gomo review walkthrough took slightly over an hour. The whole game is straightforward and linear. There are no additional story branches, hidden locations or events that require making a choice. As a result, Gomo puzzle game is a one-off title. Nevertheless, it’s exciting due to the creative visuals.


Gomo is an original hand-drawn adventure. It is not as detailed and deep as its prototype by Amanita design but deserves the attention of graphic quests anyway. As for a one-dollar project, it is worth an hour of your spare time, but not more. It is a well-made complement to AAA 2D indie quests.
