The game has an interesting storyline which keeps the player involved with the twists and turns. It revolves around Sam, a guy that goes to hell after dying in an accident. There he meets Death, the owner of the place and a skateboarding enthusiast that agrees to send Sam back to earth for one day. During this day, he shall be able to perform all the bodily functions easily.
The next phase of the game happens on earth where Death goofs up and accidentally causes the robots of Sam's company to come to life. While trying to tackle the situation, these robots kill 300 children in an orphanage due to which Death loses its power and is overtaken by war. Meanwhile, Sam and Death also end up in the hell jail, and from there, they conspire together to get out of the jail and defeat Satan. The gameplay moves at a quick pace and has a great set of twists which makes it interesting for the player. At no point of time shall the player be bored with the events taking place in the game.
The game takes place in different locations, and thus, the graphics are continuously shifting. Some people might find it a bit haphazard, so there might be a slight improvement on the part of the graphic designers. Coming to the sound quality, well, it also complements the pace of the game pretty well. There are a lot of interesting conversations that take place between different characters in the game, which makes it quite interesting to listen to them. For more information, you can watch the demo of Manual Samuel game online.
The player is required to control all the bodily functions of Sam literally. These controls vary from something as small as taking a step and blinking to fighting Satan. The controls are easy to remember; however, there is a scope for improvement since the player does not get much to do.
Replay Value 2.5/5
The game may seem too repulsive for some players with lots of blood and bodily secretions, so we seriously doubt if you'd want to play it from the beginning to an end even once. But even if you're into that sort of stuff, a replay may still be a drag, as the game has very little to offer except its linear storyline.
The Bottom Line
All in all, Manual Samuel is nothing like any other game you've ever played. So, it's worth a try. An absolute indie games winner and an outstanding adventure, it costs very little and will keep you busy with a witty plot and tricky controlling system.
